When a buyer is refunded, whatnot takes back your payout plus a little more: the buyer's shipping, already spent on a label, and the processing fee, already paid to its payment provider.

If the item is gone
Lost in the mail with no claim, damaged, or kept by the buyer: the refund is the same, and you also lose what the item cost. With a $1.00 card, the refund costs $5.94. whatROI counts a refund as the billback plus the lost item.
Small refund rates add up
