Why did whatnot take 18% of my sale?

It took three things: 8% of the item, 2.9% of everything the buyer paid (shipping and tax included), and 30 cents. On a $5 card with $4.99 shipping and 8% tax, that's $1.00, or 20% of the item. On a $50 card it's $6.01, or 12%. The 30 cents is fixed, so the percentage moves.

Are fees charged on shipping and sales tax?

Processing is. Commission isn't. Processing is 2.9% of the item, shipping and sales tax the buyer paid, plus 30 cents. So the same sale nets a little differently in each state.

What is the $1,500 cap and who gets it?

Commission is 8% on the first $1,500 of the item price and 0% above it. It covers Sports Cards Singles, Trading Card Games, Comics, and Toys and Hobbies since January 14, 2026, and Bags and Accessories and Jewelry and Watches since June 4, 2026. A $2,000 card pays $120 instead of $160. Breaks, rip and ship spots and surprise products don't qualify, and sports cards qualify only in a Singles subcategory. whatnot calls it limited time and hasn't set an end date.

Why do coins and pallets show 4%?

Coins and Money pays 4% up to $1,500 and 0% above. Pallets and wholesale pay 4% with no cap. Everything else pays 8%.

Do giveaways have fees?

No commission or processing. You pay the label, international too, and it comes out of your balance when the giveaway runs. Your balance can go negative. In the weekly report, a giveaway is a row with price 0 and a negative amount: the label.

What happens to tips?

You keep all of it. The buyer pays the processing fee. Tips get their own rows in the weekly report.

Do coupons change the fees?

Only if you fund them. A seller-funded coupon lowers the price, and commission is charged on the lower price. whatnot-funded coupons, like first-time buyer credit and Gems rewards, cost you nothing, and fees apply to the full price.

Why is there tax on my fees?

Some states tax the service. Commission is taxed in DC, Hawaii, New Mexico and West Virginia. Processing is taxed in Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas (at 80% of the rate) and West Virginia. The weekly report shows these in their own columns. Set your rate in the calculator's tax on the fees field. It's usually small.

Are fees per shipment or per checkout?

Per checkout. Three wins smart-bundled into one box still pay three fixed fees and three commissions. Bundling saves the buyer shipping. Selling the three items as one listing pays one fixed fee.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Since about March 2026, a seller-initiated cancellation costs $3 or 3% of the order total, whichever is higher. The first one is waived. Cancelled orders don't appear in the weekly report.

What are the new commission tiers?

From September 21, 2026, your sales over four weeks set your commission for the next four. In the US, the Standard tier (under $15,000) is 8%. Trading card games and sports drop a quarter point per tier, to 6.5% at $500,000 or more. Fashion, other collectibles and other categories drop faster. Processing doesn't change. Premier Shops get 10% off the rate through October 31. Pick your tier above; Seller Hub shows which one you're on. The Sell More, Earn More test that began July 16 closed on September 21. If you were on it, your period restarted that day at these rates. Its discount seems to have settled at the end of each period, so this calculator prices every order at the schedule. Rates as low as 3% are custom terms for the highest-volume sellers, outside the tier ladder.

What is different in the UK, EU and Japan?

UK and EU commission is 6.67% plus VAT, with the same £1,500 or €1,500 cap on card categories and 4% for coins. Processing is 2.42% plus £0.25 or €0.25 plus VAT. In the UK the fixed fee has been £0.15 on items under £10 since June 2026. Japan is 8% plus JCT with a ¥225,000 cap, and 2.9% plus ¥50 processing.
