How imports merge

One place for every file

Every file goes in the same drop zone. whatROI reads the column headers to tell a Weekly Orders Report, Show Report, Ledger, inventory spreadsheet or listing template apart. You never pick a type.

If the headers match nothing, the file is refused with a message listing its columns, and nothing is saved. That's also how you'll know whatnot changed a column.

Re-importing is safe

Every order carries whatnot's own id. Re-importing a file, or files whose weeks overlap, updates existing rows instead of adding copies.

When in doubt, import it again. At worst nothing changes. The history on Import marks repeats as duplicates.

Your entries always win

An import joins what's there and fills in blanks. A cost, note, disposition or boost figure you entered stays as you left it.

A cost you typed

Always wins, on the item and the order, whatever a later file says.

A cost from a rule

Recalculated when the lot changes.

An empty field

Filled in by the import.

A fee from whatnot

Taken from the weekly report when there is one, since that's what you were charged.

So you can fix something by hand and keep importing without losing the fix.

Undo an import

Import lists every import with its date, type and row count. Removing one takes out what it added and restores what it changed.

Anything you entered stays. Deleting the import that created a show keeps the costs you recorded for its stock.
